About Me
I’m a journalist, writer, essayist and curator. I began working in fashion as a stylist since the mid-1980s, for important magazines and international advertising campaigns.
I have been costume and fashion critic for the daily newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore, from 1991 to 2012; editor-in-chief of L’Uomo Vogue and Editor at large of L’Uomo Vogue, Vogue Italia and Casa Vogue. I am and have been also a contributor to numerous titles of Mondadori, Hearst, Rizzoli and Condé Nast publishing groups. I’ve taught several courses in journalism (IULM, IED, Istituto Marangoni, Università Cattolica, University of Urbino).
Among my books, I’m the author of the first and only biography of fashion designer Giorgio Armani, “Essere Armani” (“Being Armani”), published by Baldini & Castoldi in 2006 (republished in two new updated editions in 2015 and 2019) and translated into eleven languages; of the monograph “21 Costume National” (Assouline, 2007), the volume “Lozza, a history of glasses” (Electa, 2009) and “Etro” (Rizzoli, 2014). I was editorial coordinator of the book dedicated to Elio Fiorucci, “Dear Elio” (Rizzoli International, 2020).
I have written essays for many books. Among the most recent are “Ken Scott” (Rizzoli International, 2022), “Mr. & Mrs. Clark – Ossie Clark and Celia Birtwell – Fashion and Prints” (Silvana Editoriale, 2022) and “Mollino A-Z” (Electa, 2026).
From 2012 to 2015 I have organized and coordinated the Cashmere District Award, for the Umbrian Foreign Center. In 2018 I curated the exhibitions “Fashion Stories. Campari and Style” (Campari Museum, Campari Head Quarter, Sesto San Giovanni) and ‘Etro 50 – Generation Paisley’, (Mudec Museum, Milan).
In 2022, IMG Group commissioned me to select and flag a number of Italian fashion houses in order to organize exhibitions worldwide. The result was Dolce & Gabbana’s major exhibition in 2024 at Palazzo Reale of Milan “Dal Cuore alle Mani” (“From the Heart to the Hands”), which in 2025 has been staged first at the Grand Palais in Paris and then at Palazzo delle Esposizioni in Rome. The next steps of a long international tour will be in the US, in 2026: Miami, Houston and New York.
In 2019 I have published a small book of short stories, “Vite laterali” (A&B Editrice) and in 2024 my first novel, “Elegante da morire” (Baldini+Castoldi).
